Ola, Reader!

Kristie is holding down the whole fort. Not only have I left her holding the proverbial ‘bag’, but the entire set of luggage. You see, she is moving into her very own, first purchase house at the same time as I wave bye-bye! Here’s the cute, fully renovated character home pictured to your right.

When you read this, I am slurping a margarita, listening to a mariachi band and slathering SPF 30 or 45 on my finally warm body. Kristie is not. She is slurping water, listening to the phone ring and slathering wondrous creams, serums and ‘magic stuff’ on our clients.

Bottom line? I’m on vacation March 5 – 19 and Kristie is ready, willing and most able to see to all your needs. Call her at 306 1191

My online assistant, Christina is monitoring my emails while I am away. If you get a message from Christina instead of the expected one from me, then you’ve heard from someone special!

Christina lives in Victoria, BC and is a ‘Virtual Assistant’, or as she prefers to call herself an “Online Assistant”. To find out more about her and what she does you can visit http://www.officeassist.ca/index.htm

At the time of writing, specials for Avalla (Nutrimetics) have not been announced for March, but they will be up on the website now. But I have a sneaky suspicion that Nutri Moist is on sale! Visit here: www.myavalla.com and click on “specials flyer”

Ol’ Smokie

Recently, a regular, long-time client came into the Studio for her usual European facial treatment. I knew right away that something was different. As I began doing her treatment I realized that the difference was the clarity of her skin.

Her skin was brighter, more evenly coloured. It had a luminosity to it I had not seen before. I was puzzled and thinking what is different here? She uses the same products as always, keeps up her regular treatments and I’m beginning to think that she has done something different for her overall health.

And then the mystery was solved. She had quit smoking 30 days earlier!

I was immediately reminded of an article that I recently read in one of my trade magazines titled “Smoke Damage”, and I will share it here with you:

Remember those girls in school who smoked to look older? Well, they definitely got their wish, but probably not in the way they’d planned.

‘Smoking accelerates the natural aging process of the skin, which leads to premature wrinkling,’ says dermatologist Dr. Sandy Skotnicki-Grant, medical director and owner of Toronto’s Bay Dermatology Centre. ‘Smoking constricts blood vessels impeding blood flow and depriving the skin of oxygen and nutrients.’

Makeup artist David Goveia puts it more bluntly: ‘Whenever a young model sits in my chair, I can always tell if she smokes. To a discerning eye her skin has a grey and ashy undertone. Grey is unattractive. It’s a decline.’

And as Dr. Skotnicki-Grant points out, smoking accelerates the enzymes that break down the collagen and elastin that keep our skin firm and youthful. Smoking also causes depletion of the body’s vitamin C which is needed for the synthesis of collagen.

Unlike the nerve and organ damage caused by smoking, which is often reversible over time, the harm done to a smoker’s skin is permanent. Why?

Because when the body’s elastin tissue is destroyed, it remains below the skin in small yellow clumps.

Even occasional ‘social’ smoking can have a negative impact. ‘Just 10 minutes of smoking can decrease oxygen supply to the skin for an hour’, says Dr. Skotnicki-Grant.

And while a smoker may not realize her habit shows on her face, just ask a professional whose job it is to notice. Goveia only has to glance at a new client’s complexion to know whether or not she has a nicotine habit.

Next time you are dying for a puff, think of your skin before you light up.

O2 YOUR SKIN

And on that note, we highly recommend an Oxygenation Treatment of your skin. This is a tremendously healthy process at any time, whether you are a smoker or not. There are plenty of other environmental onslaughts that our skin endures such as pollution, sun damage and toxins to name a few.

Our Oxygenation Treatment comes from the Physician’s Choice training and products and is beneficial for ALL and ANY types of skin. It can be included with a peel, European facial or microdermabrasion treatment or done alone.

What an instantly amazing look and feel to the skin! Fabulous done prior to a special occasion.

HORMONE BALANCE HOTLINE

Most of our clients are aware of the more ‘natural’ and ‘wellbeing’ approach Kristie and I take with our products, treatments and recommendations in our business.

As women, the ‘horrible hormone’ subject arises often. We have been suggesting that our clients become very familiar with the works of Dr. John Lee MD, who is now deceased, but dedicated much of his medical practice to treating hormone imbalances naturally. He was a real rarity in that he had a ‘scientifically natural’ approach as a medical doctor.

Dr. Lee’s works are continued by his dedicated organization and the publishing of a very important online newsletter. To check it our just click here http://www.johnleemd.com/store/2007vol-1_no-1.html

ROUNDING THE CORNER TO SPRING

Oh boy! It’s that time again, when early spring does a number on your skin. It’s that transition time when the skin becomes very confused! Maybe it’s March winds, fluctuating temperatures and our desire to shed the winter protections too soon.

Our skin is much more sensitive, dry, flaky, tight and prone to breakouts from eczema, allergic rashes and psoriasis (did you know that the IPL treatments help with psoriasis?).

So here are two excellent products that can assist you in combating these problems and soothing a rebellious skin.

Anti-Aging NutriMinC® RE9 RElease Deep Pore Cleansing Masque

Deep clean pores and refine skin with this super-strength masque that reaches deep into pores to draw out impurities and reveal improved skin color, clarity and visual firmness.

Thoroughly, gently clean.

Kaolin, bentonite, St. John’s Wart, clover, betula alba leaf, safflower, avocado, cucumber all contribute to a truly healthy, naturally beautiful skin.

NutriMinC® RE9 REveal Facial Scrub

Clean skin and then infuse it with this high-powered, anti-aging formula that leaves skin cleansed, rejuvenated and youthful-looking.

Mmmm, so soft, so smooth, so radiant!

Walnut shell powder, cucumber, ginseng root, nasturtium, clover, Chamomile, golden seal, witch hazel, lemon, orange, safflower oil are just a few of the pure, safe and beneficial ingredients that will have your skin glowing!

Just as we begin to put away the winter wardrobe and haul out the spring and summer wear, we also need to remove the effects of winter on your skin and prepare it for the change in the season. Masque and scrub away the dull and reveal a vibrant face.

If you have been on a winter vacation to a warm and sunny locale and then returned to your regular winter climate, your skin is really wondering what is going on! RE9 NutriMinC to the rescue.

Have a great March and put on the green on St. Paddy’s day! Even if you don’t have any Irish DNA, have fun with it anyway!
