“Our purpose is to provide professional, technically advanced skin treatments with superior knowledge and skill. We feel exceptional client care and integrity creates personal contentment inside and out”

Jumpin’ Jupiter it’s June already!

I’m writing to you today from my new, secondary, upstairs office. I have a window! Yay! Today’s sky is bluer than blue, the snowball bush is loaded with balls of white, puffy flower clusters, the pool ready for swimmers and the swing beckoning. Hmmm, maybe this window thing is not such a good thing if I want to get any work done!

Now that Kristie does all your client treatments for four days out of five in our Clinic,
I kinda lost my office downstairs, so here I am sharing the cat’s room. And it’s great! The “boys” wander in and out checking me out, climb up on their tower and snooze while I work, or lay on the floor in a patch of sun next to my chair. Hubby bought me a new computer desk with hutch so I am all neatly organized and very much enjoying writing my newsletters from this new “Lynn” space.

In this issue:

Light bulb warning
Kristie’s beauty ‘recipes’
Totally Advanced Foundation Formula
Forgotten lemonade tip
Sunscreen and allergies

Congratulations to all the Grads out there and Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads!

My Dad, Kristie’s Grandpa

We Appreciate You!

Energy Interest

I was shocked to read the other day that the much recommended fluorescent light bulbs (which we now have in every socket in our house) are filled with mercury! And if you break one you almost have an environmental disaster! It’s actually classified as “hazardous waste”.

Granted, these bulbs are much tougher
than the incandescent bulbs and it takes much more of a whopping to break one, but this is information we consumers need to know. And informing us with teensy weensy magnifying-glass-needed print (I’m not kidding!) on a box of four bulbs is not the way. Here is what my box stated:

“This bulb contains mercury. Manage in accordance with disposal laws. See www.lamprecyle.org for more information”. Now that was a big help.

So I went to this website and after a half hour of searching finally came across this piece regarding what you should do if you break a fluorescent bulb on your premises:

How to Clean Up Broken Lamps and Tubes
Households or Small Amounts of Breakage

In a household or for small quantity breakages, do not use a standard vacuum cleaner! Do not use ordinary residential and commercial floor vacuums, floor vacuums that trap dirt with water, or wet/dry shop vacuums. (For vacuum cleaning, only vacuums designed specifically for hazardous waste may be used.)

Instead of vacuuming, wear latex gloves and carefully clean up the fragments. Wipe the area with a damp disposable paper towel to remove all glass fragments and associated mercury.
Keep all people and pets away from area so that mercury-containing pieces and powder are not tracked into other areas.

Keep the area well ventilated to disperse any vapour that may escape.

After clean up is complete, place all fragments along with cleaning materials into a sealable plastic bag. Wash your hands. Recycle along with intact lamps.

Spread the word to your family and friends, feel free to forward this newsletter.

Lemonade Oops!

In last month’s issue I shared my all time favorite lemonade recipe with you.
Seems I left out one crucial piece of information. I’m sure most of you clever people out there did figure out that once you have whizzed the ingredients in the blender for 8 seconds you will need to pour it through a sieve! Sheesh, just imagining drinking it without this last step…Ugh, lumpy lemonade.

This is One HOT Foundation!

Brand new from Arbonne’s Swiss technology comes the new totally advanced formula for About Face Line Defiance Liquid Foundation SPF 15.

Here are the highlights:

SPF increased from 8 to 15 (broad spectrum)
Oil-free, talc-free, fragrance-free, dermatologist tested
Convenient pump bottle
Tibetan Goji Berry Extract
Light deflecting pigments – micronized, optical pigment spheres.  2 different size particles – larger ones sit on the skin’s surface to provide glide and even blending, smaller ones deflect light away from lines and shadows on then face.

Four Patented Technologies:

1. HYDROGEL TIME-RELEASE HYDRATION – Tiny capsules permit the time-release of nourishing moisture lost throughout the day. Provides a soft cushioning effect. All skin types, especially aging or dry

2. GABA (Gamma Amino Butyric Acid) – An innovative, highly effective molecule providing a safe, non-invasive BOTOX alternative. A recognized topical cosmetic relaxer which smoothes the appearance of lines, wrinkles, signs of stress.

3. HALOXYL™ - Advanced polypeptide technology promotes enzyme activity to help improve skin’s micro-circulation. Helps reduce the look of dark circles, eases under-eye puffiness.

4. RETINOIC ESTER – Vitamin A derivative, non-irritating alternative to Retin-A. Wrinkle smoothing properties, strengthens and supports skin’s upper layers.

This is a true combination of a highly advanced skin care product and makeup foundation all in one. So popular that we are having difficulty judging how much to keep in stock as it seems to disappear as soon as we put it out!

In the above picture you will also see the new “Concealers” which also have the same anti-aging, anti-oxidant, protective ingredients.

Give us a call and arrange to drop in to give it try, or remind us to do so at your next visit to the clinic.

Kristie's Bullet Point Health Tips

Apply cold potato slices to the eyes for dark circles
Crush an Advil tablet and put it on a blemish to take down inflammation. Also use ice.
Use Pepto Bismal as a masque to diminish redness
Mix sugar and olive oil for a body scrub
Use acidophilus paste on a rash caused by yeast or fungus to heal
These herbs are good for detoxification. Use as tea: dandelion, burdock, turmeric, red clover
If you suffer from allergies make sure you are taking lots of Vitamin C. It’s nature’s anti-inflammatory

The most important system in the body to fight aging is the digestive system. Make sure it is working in tip top condition.

Sunscreens and Allergies

There are many ingredients used as CHEMICAL sunscreens. As I mentioned last month these are the words on the product label that no one without a pharmaceutical degree could pronounce. Such as octyl methoxycinnamate or phenylbenizimidazole. Whew!

Chemical sunscreens absorb UVA and UVB radiation.
The radiation is absorbed into the ingredients in the sunscreen product thus keeping it out of the skin. In rare cases, chemical ingredients cause skin reactions including acne, burning, blisters, dryness, itching, rash, redness, stinging, swelling and tightening of the skin. These reactions are most commonly associated with PABA based products and those containing benzophenones.

There are only two ingredients used as PHYSICAL sunscreens:
Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide. These are earth elements that block (picture ‘bouncing off’) UVA and UVB radiation and do not typically cause allergic reactions. In the past these two ingredients caused a product to feel heavy and thick, however using new technology (micronization), the particle sizes have been reduced, making them more transparent without losing their ability to screen radiation.

A combination of some physical and some chemical sunscreens in a product provide the best protection.

We have a wide array of choices of sunscreen products using both physical and chemical ingredients to keep you safe from damage and also keep your skin from accelerated aging:

Prescription strength: from ProCyte

Ti-Silc SPF 45 and 60 for face and body (water resistant) See last issue for details on these two items.

Arbonne:
Combining Avobenzone (Parsol) and Titanium Dioxide along with cosme-seutical ingredients to repair damage and prevent aging with antioxidants:

Baby Sunscreen SPF 30
Face and Body SPF 15
Damage Control SPF 30 (water resistant)
Lip Saver SPF 15 (in a handy tube like a lipstick)
After Sun Lotion to deeply hydrate, soften and smooth
Hair Protector (spray bottle)
Self Tanner SPF 15
Line Defiance Liquid Foundation SPF 15
NEW! Tinted Moisturizers SPF 15 (4 shades)
Mineral Powder Foundation SPF 15 (uses physical sunscreen only – Titanium Dioxide)

Avalla:

Ultra Care Day Lotion Moisturizer SPF 18 (pump bottle)

Woods Lamp –
This is a piece of equipment we have in the Clinic that we can use to actually show you the sun damage that has already occurred in your skin. This damage is not able to be seen by the naked eye yet, but it is what will rise to the surface (like a roaring beast!) in later years. We would not show you such horror without being able to also show you how to prevent more damage and actually begin the process to repair it. Just ask us for a peek under the Woods Lamp the next time you are in.

Kristie and I would be pleased to assist you in choosing the products that are best for your own skin and your lifestyle. Give us a call at 250 542 8807
